Golden Riders Part 1 eBook E H Everdene Amanda Clark Kenneth Steven
Golden Riders: Part 1 by E.H. Everdene is a rather sad little story. The main character has the rare disease Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), which means that she suffers from sores all over her body, she cannot be touched and is in constant pain. She has lived her entire life thus far in a children's home, without ever being adopted. But, when her condition gets worse she is transferred to a hospital and seems to be on the brink of death. Several mysterious things start to happen. She starts to time travel a bit, sick children are disappearing and strange lights and sounds penetrate Leah's room. In room 369 in the hospital hangs a magical painting that depicts a Golden Moon. This appears to be the ticket to end all suffering to the children in the hospital. The young patients travel through the magic painting to the other side, where there is no more illness and no more pain. This is the true Golden land, a place where sick kids can overcome their illness and protect the Golden secret. A magical little book that takes on a grave subject, imbuing it with light and possibility.Product details

Golden Riders Part 1 eBook E H Everdene Amanda Clark Kenneth Steven Reviews
A beautifully bittersweet story that ends with more questions than it answers. Golden riders is a beautiful story of possibility, even in the face of death and suffering. I found myself caught up in the story, worried for the characters and cheering them on. I would have liked to know more about the Golden Land and it's inhabitants, but very little was revealed. I shall be eagerly awaiting the rest of the series.
Summary Highly recommended to readers of fantasy and fairytales.
Disclaimer I received a copy of this book via a LibraryThing giveaway.
Wonderful story. Full of hope and promise for sick children. If wishes could become reality, then I think this would become true. Good story. Loved it.
“I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This didn't affect my opinion of the book.”
Can't wait for the second part to come out. This one ends too soon and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. If only there were truly a real "Golden Land" for all the terminally ill children. This story is the beginning of Leah's story and a secret she finds at the hospital where she's being treated and of coarse there are two really creepy villains, Mr. Darkley and Hilda. Good story to read with your children and talk about it together afterwards.
Awesome story Highly recommend you read need to find rest of series 6 stars 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 thanks Goodreads check out Goodreads
Norwegian author E. H. Everdene whose works are being translated for the English speaking audience by Scots poet and writer Kenneth Steven. Everdene is a most welcome addition to the books as she is a fine spell weaver who is inspired by dreams, meditation and uplifting artwork. She has won multiple prizes in Norway and doubtless those accolades will increase as her works become available to a wider public. Amanda Clark provides the fine illustrations for this brief novella.
A definition from Wikipedia will aid the reader in appreciating this story. Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of inherited connective tissue diseases that cause blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes.] It is a result of a defect in anchoring between the epidermis and dermis, resulting in friction and skin fragility. Its severity ranges from mild to lethal. "Butterfly Children" is a term often used to describe younger patients (because the skin is said to be as fragile as a butterfly’s wings),"Cotton Wool Babies", or (in South America) as "Crystal Skin Children".
Everdene’s writing is informed and illuminating while she opens the window of her story about the traumas ill children confront –‘ Old Westbay Harbour. She liked staring at the glow from the lights down there until her weak eyelids grew so heavy that they sent her into a light sleep where the constantly gnawing pain became a little less noticeable. Sometimes it was difficult to go to sleep because she lay there thinking. Would she die soon? Who would look after her dog Buster and feed the gulls in the hospital park?‘
The summary of the story captures the essence – ‘Leah suffers from the rare disease Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), and for that reason she’s lived her whole life in a children’s home and not been adopted. Her condition worsens and she’s admitted to the local hospital. At Westmoore Hospital something mysterious happens. Sick children disappear, and strange lights flicker through Leah’s room. A passage from the book – ‘‘It will look as though you’re about to die, but you mustn’t let anyone stop you. If you’re on that side when the transformation is complete you’ll die because once your lungs have become golden, you’ll not be able to breathe the air there any longer.’
A strange dreamlike story that feels as though it is the beginning of a series. The author manages to allow the reader to identify with the illnesses these children suffer without ever stepping into the arena of the maudlin. Quite the opposite, this is a story of hope and commitment and despite its brevity it make s a significant impact. There is much to be learned from this magic tale. Watch this new author grow!
